Limestone Creek Reserve Glow Worm Caves

Limestone Creek Reserve Glow Worm Caves

https://www.irongates.co.nz/limestone-creek-glow-worm-caves.html

Discover real middle earth and explore awe-inspiring caves and gorges.

Formed by nature and one of Manawatū’s best hidden gems, these stunning caves are host to glow worms which can be seen during the day, but are best seen at night or on dusk. The full 600m adventure will take you through caves, spectacular gorges and across a running stream. When entering the track, turn right at the bottom of the stairs which takes you upstream and down into the gully, where you’ll be met by towering walls covered in lush moss, wild ferns and orchids. You'll cross streams along the way, take care not to slip. The main cave is located about 80m from the bottom of the hill. Sturdy, supportive shoes which can get wet are essential, and bring a torch if visiting in the evening or at night. Once in the caves, limit the use of your torch as it can disrupt the glow worms.

Note: Please help protect the surrounding environment by staying on the track. Take care on the track as the surface is uneven and it can be quite slippery at times. Visitors enter at their own risk.

How to get here: Located in northern Manawatū, just north of Āpiti, on Table Flat Road (gravel road). Follow the signs to Sixtus Lodge. Limestone Creek Reserve is sign posted on the right-hand side of the road about 2km before Sixtus Lodge. Please note: the road is not accessible to buses and trailers, and only has limited road side parking.

Please be mindful that this is private property.
