The jewel of the Rangitikei River is the Mokai Gorge, featured location from Lord of the Rings - Middle Earth, a spectacular canyon that is only accessible from the river. You enjoy it for the day.

Imagine floating through 80mtr gorges, with drips of water falling off the sides of the gorge and onto your face. Native bird calling out and native bush all around. You are away from it all.

The Grand Canyons of the Rangitikei is a stunning day trip, passing through film locations of Lord of the Rings. The scenery is breathtaking, so make sure you bring your camera.

We meet and greet at Awastone, get the gear together, 4-wheel drive in to the river, put on with your guide and then its river time. After catered lunch you get views and photo opportunities of LOTR locations. At the finish we 4-wheel drive out of the gorge and transport you back to Awastone for an afternoon snack and a cuppa.

Minimum of 2 people. Lunch is presented on the river and any special dietary requirements can be catered for, so let us know.

We do not cancel due to weather. If the river is unsafe/unsuitable for the day's activity, we will try to postpone.
