Business, Industry & Experience

WE'RE GEARED FOR BUSINESS

Manawatū’s business eco-system has a vibrant mix of multinational and national companies, start-ups, research institutes, educational organisations, defence force and public agencies. The region’s dynamic environment and diverse community provides the resources and talent needed to help local companies succeed, enabling business and international organisations to establish a firm foundation on which to build. From headquarters, to research and development, through to manufacturing, logistics and distribution, and technology, the quality of business infrastructure in Palmerston North and Manawatū is among the best in the country.
Our region’s diverse economy is based on a range of public and private sector activities that demand and attract a well-educated, stable and skilled workforce. Palmerston North’s tertiary education providers, through quality, world-recognised programmes, have directly responded to this need providing a sustainable pool of local, well-qualified talent to meet the current and future needs of business and industry. Our central location, along with our strong technology capabilities and the high value we place on research and innovation, helps to keep our businesses thriving.

With multiple air, road and rail connections, transporting people and resources is cost-effective, fast and reliable. Palmerston North and the wider Manawatū is centrally-connected, has modern and cost-effective office accommodation options, along with plenty of quality visitor accommodation and conference facilities.

Want to get ahead? The Central Economic Development Agency has a Business Team that supports start-ups, growing your business, development and training. The team can also advise on investing in innovation and growth and exporting, and we can help to put you in touch with any other service you may need.

Women in Business, which is a regular local event for women in business that focuses on networking, motivating and inspiring women entrepreneurs.

Manawatū Defence Hub, which is a collective of like-minded businesses experienced in the supply of products and services to defence and other security, public service and civilian agencies, that provides a focus for action, advice and information, and identifies supply and business development opportunities.

Palmerston North works closely with the surrounding Local Authorities in the Manawatū-Whanganui catchment through the Regional Collaboration Forum, led by CEDA. Education and business are what we do here, and our extensive networks across sectors bring education providers, researchers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, local government and the wider community together. Our supportive business environment and extensive business infrastructure and networks attract both Central Government agencies and private sector organisations, such as Toyota New Zealand, New Zealand Pharmaceuticals, FMG, Norwood, FrogParking and DKSH choosing to base their corporate headquarters here. Many of the city’s initiatives and events are jointly delivered by key providers in the community, such as Massey University, UCOL, IPU New Zealand, Palmerston North City Council, CEDA, Manawatū District Council, ‘Student City’ programme, Palmerston North Airport - FlyPalmy, and our business community and networks. Working together we make the most of our small city benefits to achieve our big city ambitions
