Top Palmerston North Cheap Eats

When you’re looking for a dining experience that isn’t too hard on the pocket, we’ve got you covered. With a seemingly endless number of food options from all over the world, you’re guaranteed to fill your belly and get good value for your money.

Noodles ‘n Dumplings

Noodles ‘n Dumplings is a cult classic for Palmy locals and visitors alike. Often busy on a Friday night, this unassuming restaurant draws in many of our international residents and is home to the best dumplings in town.

Tip: If you’re not in the mood for dumplings (or noodles for that matter) you can’t go wrong with one of their spring onion pancakes – this dish is definitely one of our favourites.

Open Monday to Sunday 11am – 3pm for lunch and 5pm – 9pm for dinner.

Kapadokya

For the best Turkish in town, head to Kapadokya on George Street. With meal prices starting at less than $10 a pop, delight your senses with freshly baked bread that is somehow soft and crunchy at the same time, melt-in-your-mouth meat and falafel, and a selection of divine dips and spreads – you simply can’t go wrong.

Tip: Make sure you try their traditional Turkish coffee – it will leave your taste buds pining for more.

Open Sunday to Thursday 11am – 9pm, Friday and Saturday 11am – 10pm.

Indian Indulgence

George Street is full of amazing eats, but we absolutely love its scrumptious Indian cuisine.  Don’t let the range on the menu fool you, the prices are cheap as chips.

Tip: Indian Indulgence is BYO and you can get away with a meal, naan, rice and drink for as little as $10 with one of their lunch specials. Long lunch anybody?

Open 11:30am – 2pm for lunch and 4:30pm – 10pm for dinner (not open for lunch on Monday).

Chada Thai

There’s not much better than quality food at a good price with quick service – which is why we love Chada Thai. With a massive array of Thai food that caters to vegetarians, vegans, and meat-eaters, you’re bound to walk away from Chada Thai with a full puku and a smile on your face.

Tip: The Thai green curry is a firm favourite amongst locals.

Open Monday to Saturday 11am – 2:30pm for lunch and 4pm – 9pm for dinner, Sunday 12pm – 2:30pm for lunch and 4pm – 9pm for dinner.

Chada Thai, 81 Broadway Avenue
